Acahela Classic Compass GameIf you've ever seen the old-fashioned looking card game in a Scout Shop, Trading Post, or in the National Supply catalog and wondered what the heck this thing is, well, we have it all set up for you. The cards each contain a series of instructions that have you start at one of twenty spots on a 100-foot long line. You are told to go in a specific direction for a specific number of feet, take another bearing and go another set number of feet, and take a final bearing and go a final number of feet. If you have done it all correctly, you'll end up at a specific location on the rope line. If not, Lord only knows where you'll be! It sounds complicated, but it's really a snap and it teaches some great skills that will stay with the boys and the leaders for years to come. This is a fundamental - be sure you learn it! (To return to the Camp Acahela Compass & Navigation Award Main Page, click here). Support provided:Unit leaders will be provided with all the materials needed to do the course including leader's briefs that explains the activity so that you can answer any of your Scout's questions. Additional Camp Staff leadership can be provided if you feel additional help is needed. This is currently supported at Camp Acahela (and is under development at Goose Pond). We will provide GPS receivers, score sheets, and any other materials needed for this course. This activity can be completed in 2 to 4 hours, depending on the effort applied by the unit. Class size: No restrictions Advance notice needed: Two weeks is preferred. Cost to the unit is: $6.00 per participant and includes the patch. Separate patches are available at a cost of $2.75 each and can be purchased at Camp Acahela or at the Scout Service Center's Scout Shop
